Antrieb & Reichweite

Starkes Drehmoment und Akkukapazität (z. B. 500–800 Wh) sind bei hoher Last sinnvoll.

What is a cargo bike?

A cargo bike is a bicycle specially designed for transporting loads and goods. There are various types of cargo bikes, including cargo bikes, tricycles, and longtail bikes. They are generally equipped with a large luggage rack, a loading area, or a box that allows for the safe and easy transport of heavy items or children.

Why use a cargo bike?

There are many reasons to use a cargo bike. One of the main reasons is that it is more environmentally friendly and sustainable than other means of transport. A cargo bike produces no emissions and consumes no fuel. It is also cheaper to maintain than a car or delivery van and often faster in city traffic.

What types of cargo bikes are there?
  • Long John (box in front): Front-mounted loading area/box – ideal for transporting children and loose goods. Very smooth-running and agile in the city.

  • Longtail: Extended rear frame with benches or large racks. Looks like a regular bike, handles like one – but carries more.

  • Tricycle (Trike): Two wheels at the loading area for stability when stationary. Perfect for heavy loads and a leisurely pace.

  • Compact cargo bike: Small 20" wheels, short design, easy to park & store – ideal for narrow city centers.

The electric cargo bike

An increasingly popular variant of the cargo bike is the electric cargo bike. It offers the same transport capabilities as a conventional cargo bike, but with the added advantage of an electric motor. This allows even heavy loads to be transported effortlessly and without great strain – especially when going uphill or riding against the wind.
